A Destination for Science Discovery
Located on the University of Arizona campus, Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium has inspired curiosity through immersive science education for decades. Through interactive exhibits, planetarium shows, and hands-on learning experiences, the center connects visitors with cutting-edge research taking place at one of the world's leading astronomy institutions.
For the Mysteries of the Cosmos: Life in the Universe exhibition, Flandrau sought technology that could support a variety of interactive experiences while delivering reliable performance in a public environment. Beetronics touchscreens were selected to serve as key engagement points throughout the exhibit.

Bringing Complex Scientific Concepts to Life
The search for life beyond Earth involves a wide range of scientific disciplines, from astronomy and planetary science to biology and philosophy. To help visitors engage with these topics, Flandrau incorporated Beetronics touchscreens into multiple exhibit stations that encourage exploration and discovery.
Five of the displays function as Dynamic Interpretive Signage, combining traditional exhibit graphics with interactive content. Visitors can explore expert video interviews featuring University of Arizona researchers discussing topics such as the vastness of space, the search for exoplanets, the possibility of alien life, and the broader implications of discovering intelligent civilizations elsewhere in the universe.
By allowing guests to choose their own path through the content, the touchscreens create a more personalized and engaging educational experience.

Designed for Interactive Museum Environments
Science centers and museums present unique challenges for technology. Interactive displays must withstand continuous daily use while remaining intuitive for visitors of all ages and technical backgrounds.
The Beetronics 32TS7M touchscreens are designed for these demanding environments, providing reliable touch performance and durable construction suited for public-facing installations. Their large 32-inch format gives visitors ample space to explore interactive content while ensuring information remains clear and accessible.
As a central component of several exhibit experiences, the displays help create seamless interactions that keep visitors focused on discovery rather than technology.
We wanted visitors to feel like active participants in the search for life beyond Earth. The Beetronics touchscreens allowed us to create interactive experiences that are engaging, easy to use, and reliable for everyday operation in a busy science center environment.
Putting Visitors in the Role of Scientific Researchers
Several exhibit experiences place guests directly into the role of scientists investigating the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe.
At the Exoplanet Habitability Lab, visitors analyze the atmospheres of distant planets using optical filters similar to those employed by researchers searching for biomarkers. Acting as exoplanet scientists, guests use the touchscreen workstation to examine data gathered through advanced telescopes and determine whether a planet may contain the ingredients necessary to support life.
The Listening for Signals exhibit invites visitors to explore the electromagnetic spectrum and learn how scientists search for communications from intelligent civilizations. Through a combination of touchscreen interaction and a dedicated radio interface, guests can even listen to real-time signals collected through a radio telescope operated in partnership with the University of Arizona's Steward Observatory.
The Stellar Comparisons experience challenges visitors to compare stars from across the galaxy, helping them understand how stellar characteristics influence the formation and evolution of planetary systems.
Together, these exhibits transform complex scientific research into hands-on experiences that are accessible to visitors of all ages.
Built for Long-Term Reliability and Flexibility
Museum exhibits are designed to educate and inspire visitors for years, making reliability and long-term planning essential considerations. Interactive technology must perform consistently while supporting future maintenance, updates, and exhibit enhancements.
Beetronics provides durable display solutions with consistent specifications and long-term availability, allowing exhibit designers to integrate touchscreen technology with confidence. This stability helps simplify maintenance planning and supports the continued operation of interactive exhibits over the long term.
For institutions like Flandrau, dependable hardware ensures that visitors can continue exploring and learning without interruption.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Explorers
By combining world-class astronomy research with immersive exhibit design, Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium creates experiences that make the search for life in the universe accessible and exciting.
The Beetronics 32TS7M touchscreens play an important role in that mission, serving as interactive gateways to scientific discovery. Through engaging content, hands-on exploration, and reliable technology, the exhibition invites visitors to investigate some of humanity's biggest questions and imagine what may exist beyond our own world.
